Quick Fixes To 3 Common PS5 Problems

Photo by Dennis Cortés on Unsplash
I think it's safe to say that most of us have heard about the launch problems some of the PlayStation 5 consoles have had. Although it may seems like a lot of consoles are affected, I would venture to say that it's actually a minority that have had real issues not due to user error. It's just that the problems get amplified. the squeaky wheel gets the grease after all, right?

That being said there are legitimate concerns from owners that need to be addressed. I'm sure that future updates to the system will fix many, if not all of the problems.

That brings us back to the original intent of this article, what can you do in the meantime to fix problems right now? Believe it or not there are fixes that address some of these issues. I'll list three below that have been confirmed to work. They may not work for everyone because if your issue is similar to the problems discussed, but not EXACTLY the same, well then YMMV.

OK, so lets take a look out our first culprit of the bunch, the dreaded download queue wait that some people have gotten stuck in.

1. Download Queue - While people were hoping that the latest firmware update from Sony would have fixed this very annoying PS5 bug, it unfortunately did not happen. But the official AskPlayStation twitter gave a workaround that works:

"If you’ve experienced issues downloading games with “Queued for Download” or “View Details” messages on PS5, please update the system software to the latest version, start your PS5 in safe mode then rebuild the database. See "PS5:safe mode options".

2. Rattling / Noises - If  you have experienced this you know how distracting it can be. Sometimes it can be normal noises coming from the unit, other times it might be something to be concerned about (see Coil Whine). But some users have found a simple fix that might work: It seems like on some consoles the white outer panel can come loose. If you squeeze around the edges of the console where the panel is meant to come off at, that sometimes fixes some or all of the rattling noises you hear.

3. Rest Mode - Some users have experienced their PlayStation 5 console automatically going into "rest mode". Even after selecting for it NOT to do that in the settings menu. Well there is a simple fix fot that as well: Try turning off hdmi device link: Settings - System - hdmi

That's it! If you have anymore tips an/or tricks that have worked or if any of these fixes worked for you please leave us a comment below.
